Engineers in Action bridge program

Chapter President

May 2023 - Present

I proudly serve as the UIUC Chapter President of Engineers in Action Bridge Program (EIABP), where our mission is to make a meaningful impact through civil engineering, design, and collaborative efforts to uplift communities in need.

In my role as President, I take the helm in guiding and overseeing year-long projects that involve civil engineering structural work, intricate design processes, and meticulous project management. With a keen eye for detail, I ensure that our endeavors not only meet but exceed expectations, striking a balance between innovative design and budgetary considerations.

Beyond the technical aspects, I'm passionate about transforming the visions of our organization into tangible reality. This involves opening doors to networking opportunities and fostering inter-university collaborations that strengthen our impact on the communities we serve. My commitment extends to creating an environment of inclusive, safe, and productive communication, ensuring that every member and university leader feels empowered and valued.

At EIABP, we believe in the power of community-driven projects, and I am dedicated to leading a team that not only excels in civil engineering and design but also understands the transformative potential of collaboration. Together, we're not just building structures; we're constructing pathways for positive change and sustainable growth. Join us on this journey, and let's continue making a difference, one project at a time.

An INCREDIBLE video, made by one of our Summer 2022 Travelers, Collin Zimmers.

ENGINEERING LEARNING ASSISTANT

Welcome to ENG 100, where I guide Engineering freshmen on a 16-week journey to academic, social, and logistical success within Grainger Engineering. As an instructor, I conduct engaging weekly sessions with 22 first-year mechanical engineering students, fostering an interactive and supportive learning environment. Collaborating with a dedicated team of faculty and peers in regular meetings, I strive to enhance the student experience and expand the curriculum. Drawing from my own experiences, I am passionate about supporting these students, helping them discover their niche and passion within the diverse field of mechanical engineering. Together, we navigate the exciting path to success and stability in the world of engineering.

ENGINEERING OUTREACH BUREAU

Shadow-an-Engineer Coordinator

August 2022 - Present

In the heart of Engineering Council at UIUC, I actively contribute to the Engineering Outreach Bureau (EOB) committee—a dynamic initiative powered by the student-run umbrella organization of UIUC's 13 engineering societies. Our overarching goal is to assist high school seniors in making informed decisions about their future careers.

Within the EOB committee, I serve as the Shadow-an-Engineer coordinator. This program, exclusive to admitted students, offers a unique opportunity for them to spend a day with a current U of I engineering student. As a coordinator, I play a crucial role in designing the schedule, ensuring these students experience campus life firsthand by attending lectures and engaging in meaningful conversations with current students.

NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION CO-DIRECTOR

As the New Student Registration (NSR) Co-Director, I played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth transition of new students into the college experience. My responsibilities encompassed maintaining robust collaboration and communication with GFX staff, NSR assistants, and Grainger Department/College Advisors. I actively supported the scheduling and training of NSR assistants, providing daily updates and feedback to enhance their performance. Interfacing directly with over 40 students a day, I provided mentorship, personal experiences, and guidance in their first stages of becoming a Grainger Engineer!

Summer 2022, Summer 2023

Exhibiting enthusiastic leadership, I fostered a healthy and responsive working environment, working closely with advisors, students, and faculty to guarantee a strong start for every student. Serving as a mentor and point of contact beyond registration, I addressed issues spanning the entirety of the new students' initial college experience. Notably, I successfully facilitated the registration of over 1,200 students within a month, contributing significantly to the university's onboarding process.

WOMEN IN ENGINEERING orientation MENTOR

I proudly served as a Women in Engineering (WIE) Orientation Mentor, guiding incoming female students entering Grainger Engineering through a comprehensive three-day program.

The WIE program, dedicated to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment, has contributed to the growth of our community. This growth reflects our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and the success of women in engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's Grainger College of Engineering.

During this immersive experience, participants had the opportunity to:

- Establish meaningful connections with other women in their major and program, fostering friendships that extend beyond the first week of classes.

- Connect with knowledgeable upper-division mentors from each major, gaining valuable tips and advice for navigating college life successfully.

- Develop essential college skills to thrive academically and personally.

- Explore major and department resources, ensuring a smooth transition into their chosen field.

- Gain insights into the unique experience of being a Grainger Engineer, understanding the rich community and opportunities available.
